One Great Day…

TD1Always a great day when I get to spend time with my husband.  We planned to hit the road and enjoy the day in Lancaster!  This little treasure is a short distance from our home.  You can sense the peacefulness and simple way of life as you enter the area.  A nice break from everyday hustle and bustle!  Just love it!

We literally went over the meadow and through the woods taking in the beautiful scenery the back roads offered.  Our first stop, Zimmerman’s Bulk Foods!  You really could spend hours at this place.   Each time we visit, I always feel like a kid in a candy store.  Baking supplies, nuts, dried fruits and pasta galore.  Onto the next aisle.  a huge assortment of any spice you could possibly imagine AND bags of bulk candy!  Now we’re talking.  With the cart almost full, we headed to TD3check out.  I glanced up and saw my husband smiling.  I’m sure he was thinking, “What will she be making with all these goodies?”  His request ~ butterscotch cookies!   Done Deal!

Next stop, lunch.  As we meandered through the back roads heading home, we found a quaint, Mom and Pop restaurant in a little town called Mount Joy.  The atmosphere was very warm and homey.  The air was filled with the aroma of baked goods.  Yummm!  We enjoyed our Pennsylvania Dutch meals, right down to french fries!  Why stop there? Bring on the dessert menus (for hubby mind you).  I proudly ordered my standard favorite, chocolate ice cream!  Anytime, anywhere…lol!

At our table, there was  a pamphlet titled, “Think You Know About Ice Cream?”   Enjoy these fun facts and see if you’re surprised too:

  • At one time, it was against the law to serve vanilla ice cream on cherry pie in Kentucky?
  • In 1984, President Ronald Regan made July National Ice Cream Month?
  • Nebraska is the number one state for eating the most ice cream each year.
  • More ice cream is sold on Sunday than any other day.
  • 5% of people admit to sharing their ice cream with a pet.

Max&AllieFinal destination, home.  As we pulled into the drive way, our greeting committee (Max and Allie) were bright-eyed and bushy-tailed excited for us to be home.  It was such a fun day and now time for our family to kick back, relax and enjoy the rest of the evening.  Looking forward to our next adventure!

Enjoy your weekend!
